Evolution Acoustics is a family-owned loudspeaker company in San Diego, California, founded in 2002 by the late Jonathan Tinn and led since by designer Kevin Malmgren and his wife Florence. Every cabinet is designed, engineered and hand-assembled in San Diego. Kevin is a third-generation speaker engineer and a working trombonist; his line is that everything starts with the midrange and extends from there.
The v.1 takes that home-audio engineering into the mix room: a 5.5 in ceramic-matrix midwoofer under a 2 in AMT tweeter, a series crossover with frequency, phase and distortion correction, no DSP, and a rear port you set for the room. Mastering engineer Brian Lucey voiced the amplifier, fuse and cables with Kevin, so the package is one chain. Each system runs 40 days of burn-in, about 1,000 hours of 10 Hz sine and ocean waves, before it leaves California.
Dimensions, treatment, what you monitor on now, and what your mixes do when they leave the room. Enough for us to say whether the v.1 fits and where you can hear one.
